From the when this church was first planted in Abingdon we have been called to reach out to people in need in the community. We do this by working through Social Services to provide bedding, linen and household items to people who often have nothing of their own. The level of need can be very extreme at times for example children sleeping under coats for lack of duvets etc. We have been able to provide all manner of small items to anyone in need regardless of background or circumstances.
At Christmas time we try to do a little extra and
prepare at least 25 hampers for distribution to families through Social
Services to help these families feel a little more included in the
festivities. We get profiles of the
families from Social Services, number of children and ages etc and from this we
put together a food hamper and age appropriate toys for the children.
In 2014 we started to provide breaks during the summer holidays for a few families whose chlidren had never seen the seaside or theme park. A deserved break away from daily struggle.
